Travel: South Carolina Part 2

Hello there all,

Yesterday, I posted part one of my South Carolina adventure, so today, I am bringing you part two. Part two is: wedding day (although, I didn't take too many photos because the photographers are better at that stuff than me), Andrew Jackson State Park, exploring where the Mister grew up, and family BBQ.

The Mister and I at the reception.

The reception tablescape

Here is the bouquet from the toss. Funny story about this: I told The Mister that I was going to sneak out during the bouquet toss, and Julie, the bride (and The Mister's sister), came up to me during the reception and said "Here catch." She didn't even know that I was planning on booking it, and I ended up with the bouquet anyways.

Fried green tomatoes. When in the South, eat as the southerners eat!

Uniforms at the Andrew Jackson museum at the Andrew Jackson State Park. I am too much of a history nerd to skip out on this.

We went and visited some of the staple places that The Mister went to growing up, and this just so happened to include Sno Cones! Yes!

Family BBQ and swimming. Did I mention that it is HOT in SC? SOOOOO HOT!

I'm hoping to post part three later this week! Hope that you are enjoying all of this.

Travel: South Carolina Part 1

Hello there all,

Wow! It has been over a month since I have posted on here. I've been a busy bee, but I've also been a "It is so hot that I don't want to do anything bee." I have had a lot of people ask me about my South Carolina trip, so this week, I will be flooding this blog with different pictures from the trip (However, it won't be anywhere close to how many I actually took!) Hopefully, I'll be getting back into the swing of this blog. Sorry about my disappearance!

So, The Mister and I went to South Carolina at the end of June/beginning of July because his sister, Julie, was getting married in Rock Hill, SC. While we were there, we also visited his family and explored Charleston.

Part 1: traveling, exploring Rock Hill, seeing family, and rehearsal dinner

Of course taking the token feet picture with the PDX carpet before we left on our red eye to Charlotte, NC.

We made it!

Garden at the Bed and Breakfast that we stayed at. It was gorgeous. and I squeed from all of the cuteness throughout the whole place. Just look at the next couple of photos.

We did some exploring of Rock Hill, SC which is close to where the Mister grew up.

Had all of the Southern food and tried not to giggle every time I heard someone speak with a Southern accent.

 Found some adorable shops.

Still Rock Hill, SC

That is it for part 1. I'll have part 2 up here in the next couple of days.

Summer Movies

Hello there all,

Summer is here: the time for adventures,  reminiscing, and new opportunities.  There is something optimistic and exciting about Summer movies.  Afterwards,  I always want to hit the road and spend time with my lovelies.  Throughout the years, I have watched many movies that embrace these emotions. Here are my top ten favorite:

1.) The Sandlot One of my favorites with some of the best lines from a movie ever. Also, I can't go a Fourth of July without watching this scene from the movie.

2.) Now and Then This one is probably my favorite. I've loved it since it came out in 1995. It spoke so strongly to growing up as a girl, and I love that I can still relate to it.

3.) Dirty Dancing This movie is such a corny romantic movie, and I still love it. I can't help it.

4.) Wet, Hot American Summer Just saw this movie for the first time a couple of months ago, and it was absolutely hilarious. I hadn't laughed that much watching a movie for awhile. WATCH IT!

5.) Almost Famous So, I am noticing that most of these movies are set in a different decade. I can't help it. This one is equally as amazing. I'm such an old soul.

6.) Stand By Me I always kind of think of this as the Now and Then for boys. I just am a sucker for a group of friends growing up in the past I guess.

7.) Heavyweights This movie was kind of a staple in my household growing up. It is a wonderful summer camp movie that always made me laugh as a kid. Now, I just get kind of nostalgic for how wonderfully 90s it is.

8.) How to Make an American Quilt I've also read this book, and I just really love how it pieces together various different stories from a whole other generation. Told you: old soul.
9.) Into the Wild This is the only movie that doesn't actually take place just in Summertime, but it has such a sense of adventure and takes place after the main character graduates college. I've also read the book which was wonderful.

10.) The Goonies Maybe it is because I am an Oregonian, but Goonies is a perfect summer movie. It teams up adventure with the closeness of friends and some gorgeous scenery.

Now, let me know: what are your favorite summer movies? Which ones do you agree with? Which ones did I miss?

Just Some Reads 2

Hello there all,

Here are some interesting reads that I have found around the interwebs as of late.

  • This one has some great pointers, too.
  • Cleaning up around here, and I need to remember these.
  • I'm a sucker for old photos like these colorized portraits.
  • These restored photos are also magical.
  • This made me tear up. Pictures of what true love looks like.
  • I need to make this recipe.
  • Dreaming of rainy days and the adventures to have on those days.
  • Love these tips to help me disconnect from work and be an even more successful person.
  • video that connects Portland's past with Portland's present. I love it.

Snapshots

Hey there all,

Life is grand,  and I feel happier than I've been for awhile.  Life seems to be falling into place.

First spring harvest: broccoli and romaine.

Currently,  I am working on a project at work called: Lessons of a Lifetime.  I asked my residents: What does freedom mean to you?  This is what one of my residents said in response to my question.

Just a little happy corner of the home.

Portland exploring.

Got these hop earrings that I no joke have been lusting over forevs.  Finally found the source: Hopped Up Jewelry.  Beer girl drool.

The Mister and I bought allllll the plants for me to kill.

Waffle Window always makes my heart smile.

North Waterfront exploring.

Busy bees

Dinner at The Original: chicken and waffles, poutine,  chocolate peanut butter milkshake,  and "artisan"  hot pockets.  We're totally adults.

This week has been extra busy and messy  at work because I have a big family event tomorrow.  This is what my office looked like when I left today.

DIY: Rock gnomes

Hello there all,

It isn't really a secret that I love to paint/draw on rocks. I think it has to do with the fact that is an easy medium, and I don't feel like I am wasting anything if I mess up. The rock can just go right back in the dirt. It takes away some of that fear of failure.

Also, I have a love for gnomes. Yes, I think it is the granola/old lady gardener in me. After seeing, Jesiiii's brooch gnomes. I was inspired to make my own gnomes for plants around my house.

Here's What You'll Need
  • clean rocks
  • paint brush
  • paint pen (optional)
  • chalk
  • dishwasher safe decoupage

Here's How to Make the Cuties

1.) Draw the rough outline of the gnome with chalk on the rock.

2.) Using a flesh tone, paint the face of your gnome. Let this dry, and if you need to do any more layers, make sure it dries before starting step 3.

3.) Paint the hat of you gnome. Let the paint dry. As you can tell by the next picture, I had some hat color issues arise.

4.) Paint the shirt of the gnome. Let dry.
5. Paint the beard/mustache. Let dry.

6.) Outline any features that you want to stand out with black. I used a paint pen for this, but you could use a small paintbrush. Have fun and enjoy adding little details like buttons. Let this dry.

7.) Add white detailing to make the eyes pop. Let this dry.

8.) Add a layer of dishwasher safe decoupage. Let it dry and add a second layer of decoupage. Let it cure for 24 hours before putting it near a plant. If you just want to use this for decoration, you can skip this step, but I wanted the gnome to be waterproof for when I water plants.

9.) Make the gnome some gnomies, so he doesn't get lonely.

That's it!

Also, this gnome is my favorite, so I wanted to show him off a bit more :).

Happy crafting,
Autumn

Snapshots

Hello there all,
This week has been full of too much heat, beautiful people,  and crafts!

I adore moments like these of sitting on the patio just doing our own thing but being together.

Recently,  all of my shoes decided to die,  so I have been doing some major shoe shopping lately. Fun fact: I may be the only girl that hates shoe shppping.

National Donut day breakfast before partaking in more donuts at work...

Found what might be our new burger joint: Slowburger.  Sooooooo good.

Asian market mall.  Love.

Cutesie outdoor seating for the birthday celebration for some of my favorite people: Annie,  Vanessa,  and Rend.

Definite summer in these neck of the woods.  Homemade popsicles for the win!

Hands down THE cutest mural that I have ever seen.
